Antique Oil Painting English Civil War Battlefield Ornate Gilt Wood Frame Signed
19.3 x 14.1 cm. Antique Oil Painting English Civil War Battlefield Ornate Gilt Wood Frame Signed. A dramatic antique oil painting, on canvas, depicting an English Civil War Battle scene. A pistol holder on the white horse bears the initials'CR' [Charles Rex] and perhaps the cavalier outrider is about to refresh the King's horse. The cavalry can be seen on the brow of the hill beyond. Painted by a fine hand and signed, to the bottom right,'M. Giese' and dated by the artist'1879'. It is housed in a stunning gilt wood frame with gilt wood slip and with ornate repeating foliate designs. It's a substantial frame for its size with good depth, almost box-like, and weight. Both painting and frame are in good condition, commensurate with 19th century age. Minor losses to the frame and with some'touching-up' to the gilt, to improve and not detract.
Please study the 12 photographs which form an important part of this description and which are indicative of its general condition. Painted some 200 years after the war by a 19th century hand.
It will be wrapped in acid free tissue paper, generously bubblewrapped, protected with cardboard and despatched in a double wall cardboard box marked with'fragile' tape.
