The streamlined elongated shapes of the mirror and the hair brush together with their elegantly tapering handles are pure Art Deco in their form whereas the beautifully engine-turned enamel work has been designed to incorporate elements of both the Art Deco and the neo-Classical styles. The geometric lines radiating outwards from the base of each piece invoke the rising/setting sun motif popular in Art Deco design, while the borders have been skillfully and prettily decorated with assorted scrolling plumes augmented by neo-Classical garland swags. The craftsmanship is of superb quality throughout and the decorative enamel work is particularly fine with a lovely lustrous softness which works extremely well with the sleekness of the silver surfaces.
The individual pieces are all in excellent condition and each piece has been clearly marked with a set of English hallmarks showing that the set was made in Birmingham between the years 1927 and 1928 by the silversmiths at Charles Green & Co. A pattern number has been stamped onto the hand mirror and the hair brush together with the word Sterling. The word Sterling appears on all the pieces; stamped into the silver on the side of the clothes brush and on the top of the comb and incorporated into the enamel work with the hallmarks on both the button hook and the shoe horn. 4 and the hair brush is approx. This is a really pretty vanity set that would make a wonderful gift and which would make a stunning addition to any dressing table.Custom listed using TROCADERO's automated HTML and Picture Hosting tools.
